Guesthouse Shin

〜 A Truly “Japanese” Guesthouse Very Popular Among Foreign Tourists 〜

This large machiya (traditional townhouse) can accommodate up to 10 guests.
The area around the guesthouse retains the historical atmosphere of a castle town
built by Toyotomi Hideyori during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and still preserves its charm across the ages.

The guesthouse is just a 5-minute walk from the Hachiman-bori Canal and the old town,
which had been considered the incubator of the successful merchant leaders
called “Omi-shonin(merchants)”.
You can find various street food on a food tour. Tourists of all ages visit year-round,
both on weekdays and weekends.
La Collina Omihachiman, the number one tourist attraction in Shiga Prefecture, is only a 3-minute drive or a 15-minute walk away.

This large house, too big to fit entirely in one photo, was once the personal residence of the Masaki family,
who prospered as a soy sauce brewer in Omihachiman during the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
Admire the classical and unique "hako-kaidan" staircase that reflects old lifestyle
― an exactly museum-like experience.
The traditional bamboo ‟inuyarai” fence, latticed windows, charming antique furniture, and soft light filtering through shoji screens.
Enjoy the retro ambience
and relax in this spacious machiya.

Three private rooms on the second floor especially appeal to a group trip of friends or multiple families,
three-generation family vacation, or graduation trips.
It's the perfect place to create satisfactory and unforgettable memories for everyone.

〜 A Stroll 〜

In neighborhood of the guesthouse, you'll find many "Tobidashi-boya"
or Running Boy (a cartoon boy ready to dart into the traffic) which was born in Shiga.
It is a popular sign to warn drivers in Japan.

As you stroll through the town, you’ll encounter some uniquely designed Tobidashi-boya figures.
Among them, one is a tribute to the traditional Japanese sweets shop "Wata-Yo" by dressing the figure in a shop boy’s outfit.
The Omihachiman castle town has various version of the mascots. They are now a part of pop culture and entertain tourists.
